WHO IS HOWL?

In 1955, Allen Ginsberg penned the provocative and highly controversial poem "Howl." 50 years later Barry Jelinski found himself at a cross roads in his life that led him on an international odyssey of self discovery. Listening to the radio in his 1973 baby blue Ford F100, Jelinski was inspired by a 50th anniversary reading of the poem by Ginsberg himself.

Ready to live the easy life in Mexico, Barry suddenly realized that he still had something important to say to the world. At that moment, moved by the same emotions that inspired Ginsberg to write, Howl Interiors was born.

Who cut their wrists three times successively unsuccessfully, gave up and were forced to open antique stores where they thought they were growing old and cried - Allen Ginsberg

As a child, Barry's design resume began to take shape as he traveled the world with his family, seeing things and places that would never be mentioned in the guide book. His eccentric family, made up of artists and pseudo-philosophers, shaped his desire to create. Taught both by nature and nurture, he was given his first circular saw at the age of 8 and began to learn the art of collecting from his mother as she led him through antique markets in Europe and across America.

An antiquarian at heart, the diversity of his background is reflected in the fearless home fashions that he creates. At it's core Howl represents it's own unique aesthetic, that of a Rich Urban Bohemian Existence, or a R.U.B.E..

Each of Howl's pieces, be they created or collected, are imbued with a sense of soulfulness. "Soul is my goal," Barry likes to say.

Jelinski previously co-founded the by Ballpark Market and Rue 22 Antique shop in Denver, CO.
